Custom Bulleit Bourbon Label and FREE Tasting

So…hi!! It has been a MINUTE since I have written on the blog. And, as an unintentionally reformed writer (and drinker), I feel kinda bad that I have left this hanging for so long. Also, I pay WordPress for it so I might as well use it. And my Google analytics tell me I don’t have as many visitors to the site, and it’s getting lost in the deep-dark cut-throat Search Engine Optimized Nightmare that is The Internet. I get about a dozen emails a day from “people” who want to help me with this and make vintage20wine.com appear on FIRST PAGE OF GOOGLE !! Sure. ::insert eye roll::

Since we last spoke, a lot has happened. In March of 2020, we weren’t sure if our doors would remain open. We started our drive up window (still going, by the way!). We cancelled events, and like pretty much everyone else, kinda hunkered down. Our children got really good at using technological devices, and really bad at eating what I would consider to be actual food.

But hey, hopefully the worst is over and we are starting to get back to “normal” (whatever the heck that means).

Around these parts, it means that TASTINGS ARE BACK, BABY!

Join us this Thursday, June 24th 2021 for a Bulleit Bourbon tasting. We will have the regular, 10 Year, and Rye available to try (but we won’t have the 10 Year or Rye available to purchase because it’s out of stock. Way to be lame, guys).

We’ll also be giving away CUSTOM LABELS with any Bulleit purchase! It’s pretty cool, and makes a great gift for Dad (better late than never, right?), yourself, or any bourbon aficionado in your life. What will yours say? (Mine would say “Suck it, Trebek” but I bet they won’t let me print that.

NEW: Drive Thru Window and Curbside Service

Beginning Saturday March 14th 2020, Vintage 20 will be offering Curbside Service and a DRIVE THRU WINDOW for your convenience and safety.

There are two things I always say about our line of work:

1.) Our customers and community are the BEST

2.) At Vintage 20 Wine and Spirits we are basically ALWAYS open. Most holidays? Open. Snow storms? Open. Pandemics? …Open. drive thru

That said, we want you to stay safe and healthy (and us too). So we’re trying a little something new- Curbside Service and a DRIVE THRU WINDOW. Here’s How it Works:

  • CALL US at 518-895-1098 to place your order.
  • Pay by credit or debit card over the phone (there is a $1.00 service fee for this as our merchant processor charges a higher rate for keyed-in transactions).
  • Your order will be ready in as little as 5 minutes!
  • When you arrive, pull up to the front of the store and call us to let us know you’ve arrived. We’ll need to see valid, government issued ID upon pick up, so have it handy.
  • A customer service rep will bring your order out to your car for you. ALTERNATELY, you can pull right up to our window (it will be marked) and we’ll hand your purchase to you.

It’s that simple.

Our store will remain OPEN to walk in customers as long as the powers that be will allow 😉

If it’s still January, it counts as a New Year’s post, right?

If you have ever worked in any sort of retail environment, you are probably well aware that the “Holiday Season” (aka Hell) is both the best and worst of times. It takes forever to go by, and at the same time, you blink and it’s the end of January, and you’re wondering where the heck did it all go?

I know that’s where I’m at. And I have also been very bad at keeping up this site. Best intentions and all that.

But here I am! Trying to come up with some sort of a tasting schedule for the coming year.

So please, join us this Friday January 24th 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM for a free sample of Citra Montepulciano D’Abruzzo. This is a great everyday table wine for cold months, as it packs a little bit of heat and a touch of acidity, but not too much. It’s right smack in the middle of the palate for fruity vs peppery, dry vs. sweet. So basically, it’s an easy going, people pleasing, delight. And super reasonably priced, too!

But wait, there’s more! During the tasting (hosted by yours truly), we’ll take 10% off your purchase of Citra Montepulciano. It’s a good deal with some great company, if I do say so myself 🙂

Because we are delivering alcohol, there are a few things you should know. First, we absolutely take the law, your safety, and ours seriously. You MUST present valid, government- issued photo ID at the time of delivery. Vintage 20 and its representatives reserve the right to decline sale to anyone who is visibly intoxicated, if we believe that underage drinking will be taking place, or if you cannot produce valid ID.

Do you ever have one of those years that makes you wonder if you are secretly the star of a sitcom and you just…I don’t know…forgot…or nobody told you, or something? Just me?

This has definitely been my reality of late (okay, it’s been going on for a while now) and I feel like it’s just been a Murphy’s Law extravaganza of comedic error, and I-Love-Lucy-style ridiculousness. Life gets that way sometimes. I just keep reminding myself, hey– at least I’m never bored.

And while that’s true…I do often get distracted, and then I look up one day and realize it’s been TWO ENTIRE MONTHS since I’ve published a blog post. Whoops.

So here I am, just an exhausted mom/business owner/wine aficionada waving at (all 5 of) you from my keyboard, hoping you’ll join me this Friday for our Saint Lawrence Spirits tasting.

If You’ve Read the Casual Wine Taster Blog before, you probably recognize Saint Lawrence Spirits. We’ve invited them to taste here a number of times, and with good reason. They are a New York family owned and operated distillery, and above all we LOVE sharing high quality, locally crafted products with our customers.

My personal favorite is their Empire Cream. It’s made with their Ryesing Tide Whiskey and real cream (from Batavia). Smooth and decadant, this is a fall evening in a glass, especially if you’re like me and don’t much care for pumpkin-spiced-everything.

They’ll be bringing their other fabulous spirits, too. Around here people seem to love the Captain’s Flask bourbon. Saint Lawrence also makes some more interesting offerings, like Downbound Gin, which is barrel-aged, giving it a distinctive, nutty warmth at 114 proof.

Stop by and try it all this Friday, September 20th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. As with all of our tastings, there is NO CHARGE to attend. Just stop by and sample at your leisure!

They’re Baaaack!

FREE Saint Lawrence Spirits tasting at Vintage 20 on Friday 6/28/19 from 4p-7p.

No, not the spirits from Poltergeist. Instead we have much more friendly Spirits– from Saint Lawrence Distillery in Clayton, NY! We’ve got them stopping by this Friday, June 28th for our weekly FREE tasting.

One of our favorite homegrown, handcrafted lines, the spirits from Saint Lawrence Saint-lawrence-downbound-ginDistillery are right outta this world. We just brought in their Downbound Gin, which is unique because it’s barrel aged and “Navy Strength” (aka 114 proof). We also have some old favorites, including Empire Bourbon Cream, and Captain’s Flask Bourbon. AND SO MUCH MORE. A rep from the company will be on hand with many samples from the Saint Lawrence Spirits portfolio.

So bring your questions and your taste buds– there’s a lot to explore this Friday (June 28th) from 4PM-7PM at Vintage 20 Wine and Spirits. Cheers!

 

You’ll Wanna Try this: Scrumpy Ewe

Vintage 20 Wine and Spirits hosts a Scrumpy Ewe Cider tasting on Friday 6/14/19 from 4pm to 7pm.

So Here’s Something a Little Bit Different

…but only a little. Here at Vintage 20, we really enjoy supporting other local businesses. So it’s always a good day when we’re able to add new products to our inventory that highlight the great stuff being crafted in our little corner of the world, and share them with you. This week’s tasting highlights a local Cidery (for a change): Scrumpy Ewe. Located a hop, skip, and a jump away in West Fulton, Scrumpy Ewe Ciders are born and brewed in the Schoharie Valley using an interesting variety of apples in a European style. What you get is a cider that feels more like a fine wine. So yeah, this ain’t your scrumpy-ewe-cidermama’s cider.

Nothing against your mama, of course 😉

Join us this Friday, June 14th from 4pm to 7pm to try some Scrumpy Ewe’s goodness, and maybe even learn what “scrumpy” means (unless you already know or decided to Google). We’ll have two ciders open for your tasting pleasure. They’re night and day— and delicious. Hope to see you there!

 

Blue Chair Bay Key Lime Rum Cream

Vintage 20 brings you to the beach on Friday 5/10/19 from 4p-7p with a FREE Blue Chair Bay Key Lime Rum Cream tasting.

Let’s talk about Rum Creams for a minute.

First of all, if you didn’t know this was a thing: you’re welcome. Rum Creams, just like any other creamy alcoholic beverage, are a combination of Rum and dairy cream. What’s nice about them is they have a very decadent and dessert-y quality without having to actually mix anything. Maybe throw in an ice cube or something. Or just chill ahead of time. Lazy drinks are the BEST.

What’s not nice about them? They can be a little bit addicting!

Blue-Chair-bay-key-limeThis one’s an old favorite around these parts: Blue Chair Bay Key Lime Rum Cream. Blue Chair Bay is Kenny Chesney’s line of rums. I’m not a huge country music fan (sorry, most-of-America), but he did a good job with these. A lot of times you’ll see a celebrity sign on with a distillery or winery and it’s just a name, not quality. But these are good. REAL good.

The Key Lime Rum Cream is the BOMB.

If you’ve every been to Key West, FL, you’ve probably had a Key Lime something-or-other, whether it’s a cocktail or a pie, or something else entirely. The flavor of a Key Lime is pretty distinctive, with a higher acidity than a typical lime. So you get citrus with a distinctive tart– the perfect accompaniment to sweet and smooth Caribbean rum and real dairy cream.

Blue Chair Bay Key Lime Rum Cream makes me want to plop down in a beach chair with a chilled glass and a teeny umbrella, and just take it all in one sip at a time. Preferably from that beach pictured above. Take me back!!

Hey guys! It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these, but this week we are hosting a Vintage VIP Tasting.

So, What’s Vintage VIP?

This week we’ve got Passionately Peach wine by Johnson Estate Winery. Johnson Estate is New York”s oldest estate winery, which means that they boast some fabulous old vines, and decades of experience. I like their stuff so much, I almost worked for them! I found out I was pregnant like 30 seconds later, so that got the kibosh. But for one brief shining moment, I got to enjoy some of the best wines New York State has to offer.

And now I’m excited to see these wines making their rounds in our area again, and we’re thinking about bringing them to Vintage 20! Stop by this Friday, April 26th, between 4 PM and 7 PM to try Passionately Peach, and let us know what you think!
